01 · The long view
Painted porches, a tree-lined grid,and stores you can walk to
Kirkwood was laid out as a streetcar suburb in 1899 and grew into a self-contained village: bungalows on generous lots,a downtown main street,and parks that anchor every cul-de-sac. When Atlanta annexed it in 1922, the neighborhood kept its own address,and it has never lost the habit of doing things locally..
Today that reads as: Saturday coffees at Taproom, chicken wings at the Spring Fling, tennis at Bessie Branham,and a Beltline link finally on the way. It is one of Atlanta’s most walkable intown
neighborhoods by most rankings,and the sidewalks actually get used.;
