Fall is Kirkwood's best season, and I say that after 20 years of showing homes through Metro Atlanta autumns. The porch weather is real, and the calendar fills up: the Wine Stroll wrapped its 20th year, the farmers markets run every week, and the parks finally lose the heat. Here is what I actually put on my own list for fall 2026, block by block.
The Kirkwood Wine Stroll, year 20
The Wine Stroll is Kirkwood's big fall night out, and September 12 brought its 20th annual edition, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. The Kirkwood Business Owners' Association runs it like a neighborhood-wide party: about fifty participating shops and restaurants pour along Hosea L. Williams Drive, with live music on stages and check-in near Urban Pie. It sells out most years, so mark next fall's calendar and watch kirkwoodwinestroll.com for tickets.
Farmers market weekends
The east side is spoiled for farmers markets, and none requires a drive across town. The Oakhurst Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 630 East Lake Drive, a few minutes from the 30316 side. The East Atlanta Village Farmers Market takes the Thursdays, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Stokeswood Avenue through mid-November. And the Decatur Farmers Market sets up on Clairemont Avenue Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. All three run through the season, and all three are the answer to the "what do we do on Saturday morning" texts I get from buyers.
Kids home for school break the week of October 12-16? The Bessie Branham Recreation Center runs a fall break camp for ages 5 to 12; it is registration-based, so sign up early at the camp listing.
The parks do the heavy lifting
Bessie Branham Park has the walking loop, the tennis courts, and the playground, and its roughly seven acres stay busy right up to dusk. Coan Park carries the Trolley Line Trail through its middle, and the Eastside Trolley Trail now reaches the Beltline's Eastside Trail, and the last piece, a pedestrian crossing of Moreland Avenue at Arkwright Place, is still under construction, with the GDOT contract scheduled to finish around the end of October. Fall is the best walking weather there will be until spring, and the neighborhood treats the path as a front porch.
Worth the drive
If you want a bigger calendar, the season stacks up around you: the Oakhurst Porchfest takes over the porches of Oakhurst on October 10, the Decatur BBQ and Bands Festival fills Harmony Park on October 17, and the Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade runs October 17-18, with the parade Sunday afternoon. Haints & Saints, Decatur's Day of the Dead parade, walks from the cemetery to the Square on October 25, and Taste of Atlanta's Grand Tasting Midtown lands October 15. I check Discover Atlanta's fall list every year and still find something new.
If you are new to the neighborhood or just visiting, start with a Saturday: market in the morning, a park at lunch, and the stroll when it comes around. That is Kirkwood working the way it was built to.
